As a photographer, a wedding in Volterra is an interesting prospect. The area is not as famous as other parts of Tuscany but the town of Volterra is stunning. This particular wedding didn’t give me a chance to work in the amazing Etruscan town but I have a good walk around it that morning as I can safely say it is a gem!
To start, Volterra is a historical town in West Central Tuscany. The town is a mix of Etruscan, Roman, medieval history. It is a history lovers paradise. For anyone interested in architecture it’s fascinating. In general, it is a great place to visit for the views, history, art, culture, food, drink and more. Volterra has a lovely feel to the town as in some places it is lively but not excessively so. However, if you wish to find peace and quiet you can easily wander down the little street and quickly find tranquility.
For a Volterra wedding photographer, the two wedding venues of interest nearby are Villa Ulignano and Borgo Pignano.
This entire wedding takes place at Borgo Pignano. This is a fun wedding as the groom and his best men are all Gold medal-winning Olympic rowers from various Olympics. The best men are the British Olympic gold medal-winning rowing team. They come straight back from the Olympics in Rio and go to celebrate this wedding in Italy. As a result, you can imagine that there is a lot of camaraderie between them!
Both the bride and groom get ready in the main villa at Borgo Pignano. The ceremony is in front of the chapel in the courtyard and then the drinks reception takes place on the other side of the villa in the herb gardens.
The family photos and couple photos all happen before dinner. The reception is on the main lawn in front of the villa. Some great speeches follow and everyone enjoys the food and wine. Finally, after cutting the cake the party starts in the courtyard with the live band!
Another location you should visit is this charming noble villa near Siena.
