My first opportunity as a Villa Gamberaia wedding photographer has me working with an international gathering. With people coming from literally all over the world to celebrate the wedding of this Los Angeles A-List couple. This incredible villa near Florence is certainly a fitting location for the jet set.
This historically important villa is in Settignano, which is close to Fiesole. A twenty-five-minute drive from the center of Florence will soon have you day-dreaming at the lovely views of this quiet area. Hidden behind some imposing gates the early 17th-century villa is famous for its gardens. The ancient cypress tree-lined driveway sets the scene and as you move from the front of the villa you start to discover the gardens and different areas.
Villa Gamberaia – The Architecture and Gardens
Seeing as this is my first time at the villa I arrive a little early and take my time to explore all of it well. The gardens are quite large with terracing, two grottos and a lot of details. There is certainly lots for me to photograph. It’s good that there are plenty of different locations, it means that it is quite easy to find a quiet area away from the reception or ceremony areas to take photos without showing any of the “behind the scenes” set up.
Preparations and ceremony
Once I have the images I need I start taking a few photos of the details and accessories. Next, it is time for the groom getting ready and then, of course, the bride. The images don’t take long at all as the couple wants as little fuss as possible over this part. We will concentrate on everything else!
The ceremony takes place in the grotto behind the villa. The decor is simple but suits the location well. The flower girls and bridesmaid enter and then the bride arrive. The ceremony is touching and heartfelt and everyone enjoys it immensely. After, there are drinks in front of the villa overlooking Florence.
Dinner Reception and Party
Later, we have a portrait session with the newlyweds and then some group photos at sunset just before dinner. The reception, speeches, cake cutting, lantern launching, and the party follow.
