This was a lovely wedding in Venice for a perfect couple that decided to get married on their own. What an honor to photograph an event that was so private and special. Many people decide to get married in Italy and have full weddings but elopements are growing in popularity.
They got ready separately so first I photographed the groom getting ready. He then went down to the hotel reception for a coffee and read a newspaper whilst I then photographed the bridal preparations.
The room was lovely so we had fun taking a few bridal portraits once she was ready and then we headed down to the reception where she was going to meet the groom in front of the hotel for an excited and emotional first look before they both got in a special Royal Gondola that was going to take them to the church. We passed in front of Piazza San Marco so I was able to get some shots of them in the gondola with the square behind them as I was in a water taxi running alongside.
They arrived to the church which was the Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci. This is in a lovely area and is quiet and ideal for an intimate wedding like theirs. The ceremony was perfect and they exited to petals and then an impromptu dance before we took to the gondola to drift around a few more canals before we stopped in Piazza San Marco. I took a few quick photos there and managed to find a spot without too many tourists.
We then took a water taxi to a few locations slightly further away. After these photos we returned to the city center and then to the hotel where they had a first dance, a Bellini and then I left them for a quiet romantic dinner. I get to photograph in many locations but this opportunity to be a Venice wedding photographer was a fantastic experience and I am excited for the next time.
