An elegant Certosa di Pontignano and Villa Catignano wedding. Siena is an incredible city and it is no surprise that many people choose to have a wedding in a famous city or just outside in the countryside. This couple chooses to have a religious wedding in a delightful church near one of the loveliest villas in Tuscany.
Certosa di Pontignano wedding ceremony
The Certosa di Pontignano is an ideal location for a church wedding as it has ample parking outside for coaches or lots of cars. In this case, it is only 5 mins from the villa which is great. The church is part of a large complex of cloisters and other buildings. Certosa is the Italian word for “monastery”. Nowadays, the Certosa is run by the University of Siena and so it hosts conferences and exhibitions too. The cloisters are delightful and offer great opportunities for photos and there is also a lovely garden at the back of the villa that attaches itself to the Certosa.
The wedding takes place in the larger of two churches there. There is a smaller chapel that is breathtaking, there are frescoes from floor to ceiling. The ceremony is lovely and the white church lends itself to creating your own designs and colour schemes. After the ceremony, we all return to the villa for a drinks reception. Dinner follows under the stars in the courtyard.
