Maui Jim Sunglasses

I have always admired commercial photographers and the complexity involved in photographing objects, so when I bought myself a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, I couldn’t resist having a go at photographing them. I love the cool design, but all those reflective surfaces are really difficult to photograph. I definitely have a lot of respect for photographers that do this sort of commercial product photography, it is a very precise, skilled form of photography that takes time and a lot of care… those reflective surfaces are a nightmare to photograph!

I’m so glad someone appreciates the work that goes into that type of photography. I’m the photographer that does most of the high end product photography for Maui Jim, Inc. I can tell you we spend hours working the light to highlight or fade in a certain way. Its like trying to photograph a mirror. Everything reflects, including the camera and possible even you. I’ve spent most of my life trying to learn what light does and still get surprised when something totally unexpected happens, but thats the thrill of photography.
You might be humbled by what we do, but we too, are humbled by yours.
