Intimate wedding in Venice

Venice is always and exciting place to photograph a wedding. I believe you can’t get married in Venice and not have a gondola ride, I mean really you just have to do it! Often when I work with couples I like to seek out the more original and authentic locations and not just do the usual tourist spots. For me Venice is about all the back streets and getting off the beaten path.

A gondola is a good way to see the other side of Venice and is relaxing fun whilst having a few photos taken. In this case I managed to get photos from both perspectives as for a bit I was in the gondola with the couple and then I also managed to go in another gondola to change the view point.

I can’t wait to photograph my next wedding in Venice!

Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice.

This church is located in the Cannaregio district of Venice. The altar area is raised which give an interesting perspective and the church which was completed in 1489 uses marble extensively. This was my first church wedding in Venice and I really hope to be back there soon. If you are considering getting married in Venice I strongly suggest you take a look at having your wedding at Santa Maria dei Miracoli.

For a wedding photographer Venice is an exciting destination, however, I find it frustrating as there are so many great locations for photos but there’s never enough time! Wedding photography in Venice is about time management as well, you can step out the door and spend all your time in one spot as it is so beautiful, or you can try and cover some of the more famous locations and throw in some quieter spots along the way. Imagine how difficult it can be to decide what to do in Venice when you only have an hour or maybe two.

Here are a few photos from a shoot I did recently. It was a sunny day but it was cold! In fact it was only a degree or two above freezing so although there was the sun it didn’t help keep the cold out. I enjoyed the very low light shots that we did inside Hotel Danieli, this is truly a stunning hotel just moments from Piazza San Marco. Low light creates atmosphere and I think it really suited the historic interior of the hotel.

As a wedding photographer Venice is a fantastic location. Every time I go there I have a blast! My advice for all my Venice clients is to go all the way and make the most of the photographic opportunities. This means a water taxi ride in order to at least visit the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge, Isola di San Giorgio, and it also give you the opportunity for some fun pictures with various wonderful palazzi, churches and also Piazza San Marco in the background, if you have more time then there are many other locations. A wedding in Venice would be incomplete without a Gondola ride. The gondola can take you around the smaller, quaint, romantic back canals, passing under many bridges and by lovely Venetian buildings that offer beautiful backdrops to your wedding photos. Finally wedding photography in Venice would certainly be incomplete without a good stroll around St.Marks square.
