Umbria lies to the east of Tuscany and although much less famous than Tuscany it is a beautiful region. The more famous towns of Perugia and Assisi are lovely but Umbria has some of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy such as Panicale, Paciano, Montefalco, Montone, Bevagna and Todi. Umbria also has lake Trasimeno and various towns including Castiglione del Lago that sit lakeside.
Umbria offers much of what Tuscany offers photographically and in some ways even more, it has ruins, rolling hills, cypresses, villas, fields, a lake, great food and wine and very hospitable people.
