Castello di Modanella

Castello di Modanella is conveniently located between Florence and Rome and lies five minutes from the Tuscan hill top town of Lucignano. The castle is close to good main roads but is in a secluded location as you have to pass 3 kilometers of dirt road to reach it. Once you do arrive you will be impressed by the large courtyard at the center of the castle, the extensive out-buildings and wonderful views that face the setting sun.

The castle has a lot of accommodation both close to the castle and also a few more minutes away there are 2 separate villas both belonging to the castle so this is a venue that can host weddings with large numbers of guests.

To the back of the castle there is dense woodland but to the front the views across the vineyards and dirt roads and surrounding ruined farmhouses are lovely. Guests can easily take a car and visit Siena which is only 30 minutes away. Cortona, Montepulciano and Pienza also reside close by.

Civil weddings can be held in Lucignano town hall or catholic weddings in one of the churches in the town. The castle has its own chapel that can accommodate smaller groups and is great as it is right on the property.

When I photograph weddings at Castello di Modanella I like to try and capture as much of the castle and the surrounding countryside as possible as it has many elements that make for a very Tuscan backdrop.
